So, you desire to start something new?!?
Well, I have news for you. You can do it at any age, even in your 40s.
I started my journey to create a business of some type years ago. Trying all kinds of different things. I really wanted to be a blogger, but every time I wrote something I felt the fear of being a beginner.
I technically started at 39 on my new adventure, and soon my 40s found me, and there wasn’t much going on. On my journey I have recommitted multiple times. There was always something holding me back.
FEAR!
This four-letter word has been standing in my way for so long. I decided that it is time to look fear in the eye and say, “This time I am doing my own thing, even if you are looking back at me!” And then I recommitted to doing all of the things in spite of my fears.
Fears of:
Others judging me.
My friends and family won’t understand.
I will look like a ‘Newbie’ in front of other people.
My questions will seem dumb.
I might ramble on and talk too much if I am nervous.
Creating something no one likes.
Being vulnerable.
Well…all of my fears have come true. And I am still around to go live on social media and create blogs to share with my people.
My biggest piece of advice for being a beginner in your 40s is to just do it. Oh, there will be days that you feel like you should have learned this long ago. But it wasn’t your path to know it long ago. It is your path to know it now, and to bring your joy into your life.
You are the perfect age to learn something that will bring you happiness.
Imagine two women who are 60 years old. They both want to learn to paint and create beautiful art. One woman is saying that she is too old to learn and being creative is only for the young. The other woman goes out, finds somewhere to learn some techniques and begins to create art that makes her happy.
Now imagine that both women live to be 84 years old. The woman who learned to paint was able to do something that made her happy for 24 years. She was able to shine her light and share her gifts with the world. The other woman let FEAR stand in her way.
I choose to be brave in the face of fear and let myself have time to learn something that will bring me happiness.
I may look silly at times, but I also get to do something that brings me joy and lets me grow as a woman.
