How to Get a Good Night Sleep Without Medicine! - Part 3

Hey, hey everyone...I hope you were able to find some tips in Part 1 and Part 2 of How to Get a Good Night Sleep Without Medicine that helped you.  I know you are excited to see how I finish my days.

Let’s get to it!

Finding balance is something I strive to do throughout my day, but it is even more essential as I am winding down. These last few tips are some of my favorite ways to end the evening. They really help me to get to a place of zen and balance.

Are you ready???

    7. Relax with a Warm Drink.

Remember that we are relaxing and getting our bodies and minds ready for sleep...so it is best to keep it caffeine free.  I really enjoy having mint tea, but sometimes I like a bit of variety.  If you aren’t sure, try a variety pack, and then you can try them all to see what suits you best.

In the winter time, I do like to make some homemade hot cocoa.  When I was growing up, I would hear that warm milk would help you sleep.  So somehow that was ingrained in me, and having an evening cup of cocoa really relaxes me!!

    8. Read a Book

As evening winds down, I enjoy having a book that I keep by my bed.  I like to spend my last 15-20 minutes reading.  Well, sometimes I only make it 5 because it is so relaxing for me.  I like to keep a book that is really easy reading, and something that I can easily put down as I start to relax and my eyes get heavy.

I keep the books for classes or things I need to remember for reading during the day.  Some of my favorite authors for my evening reading are Nora RobertsNicholas Sparks and Mary Higgins Clark.  For me these stories are easy to go in and out of as I can relate to the characters!!

Keep the books real and avoid the blue light from your phone or other devices.

    9. Use Sleep Music or White Noise

At my house the kids use sleep music to wind down and relax daily.  Even if they wake up in the middle of the night, I will hear the music start and when I check on them they are already sleeping.  We like native flute music or guitar music.  Find something that is relaxing and soothing for you.

My husband is more a fan of white noise, so we run a fan in our room all year round.  In the warm months we will have it blow on us to also give us relief from the heat.  When the days begin to shorten and the nights grow cooler, we just turn the fan to face the wall.  Then we still get the noise, but it is not blowing directly on us.

If music or a fan are not your style, and  you still like having some noise, then maybe a noise machine is for you.  Find what works for you and relax!!

    10. Aromatherapy

My favorite way to wind down to sleep is using aromatherapy.  There are so many relaxing smells and blends that I have found to put my mind and body in a restful mood.  My favorite oil to use in my evening routine is Lavender.  I think it smells great, and when I incorporate it into a routine consistently I like how I feel.

Lavender is not the only oil that you can use for relaxation, but it is the most well known. I recommend using Young Living essential oils. They have premade blends that you can buy, or you can use single oils that you enjoy.  Reach out if you have questions or are interested in learning more.
